In February 2010, US Senator Mark Begich hosted the Alaska Report. In this episode, Sen. Begich interviewed representatives from the US Department of Commerce and the 2010 Census. Joining Sen. Begich from the Department of Commerce was Policy Director Travis Sullivan. His participation in the program followed a trip to Anchorage by Commerce Secretary Gary Locke. Mr. Sullivan discussed the role of the Commerce Department in Alaska, efforts to create jobs through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, and the potential for Congress to pass a Jobs Bill. To discuss the 2010 Census, Sen. Begich hosted Raul Cisneros, the Chief of the Census Publicity Office. Mr. Cisneros shared the importance of the census and dispelled common misconceptions about it. On January 28, 2010, US Senator Mark Begich co-chaired the first meeting of the Senate General Aviation Caucus. The meeting addressed role that General Aviation (GA) currently serves in the US, how to elevate the concerns of the GA community in the Senate, and ways the General Aviation Caucus can work with government agencies. Founded in September of last year, the General Aviation Caucus works with pilots, aircraft owners, the aviation industry, and relevant government agencies to promote a safe and vibrant environment for GA. Co-Chaired by Sens. Begich and Johanns (R - Neb.) the caucus is composed of 23 members. The caucus is of particular importance to Alaska. Statewide there are 169 communities with no road or ferry access. This leaves them dependent on GA to provide transpiration for goods and people.

On the Senate floor, US Sen. Mark Begich endorsed a policy to create a bipartisan independent task force to identify federal budget cuts for Congress. Sen. Begich also endorsed a policy proposed by the President to freeze discretionary spending for three years. Such an action would cut an estimated $250 billion from the national deficit over the next decade.
