Stolen Vote

John Boehner's House Leadership Office (R) posted a Video (blip.tv) on June 3, 2008 | 4:13 pm - Original Item - Comments (View)

On the night of August 2, a GOP proposal to bar illegal immigrants from receiving taxpayer-funded benefits under Fiscal Year 2008 agriculture appropriations bill passed 215-213 when the Democratic chair gaveled the vote to a close. After reopening the vote and allowing several Democrats to change their vote, Democratic leaders ordered the vote closed for a second time, reversing the outcome and restoring taxpayer benefits under the bill for illegal immigrants. The select committee – which has subpoena power – is expected to issue a final, comprehensive report by September 15, 2008.
