Appearing on Fox News' America's Newsroom, House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) discussed the pressing need for "read the bill" reform that would bring "more transparency and accountability to how Congress works." Boehner has posted on America Speaking Out an idea that Republicans have been promoting to prohibit the House from considering any bill that has not been publicly available via the Internet for three days. Through America Speaking Out, Republicans are listening to the American people while Democrats continue to ignore their will, as evidenced by today's Gallup report showing record-low ratings for Congress. During the interview, Boehner also discussed Democrats' plans for the largest tax increase in history and Republicans' better solutions to get people working again. Following are excerpts from the interview: BOEHNER CALLS FOR END TO BUSINESS AS USUAL, SAYS WE NEED "READ THE BILL" REFORM NOW: "Well, as we've listened to the American people over this last 18 months I think it's been pretty clear, people are concerned about jobs and the economy. They're concerned about the spending and debt that is going on here in Washington, DC, they're concerned about the new health care bill that will wreck our health care system and bankrupt the country. And I also think they are concerned about National Security. But one issue that they really are concerned about is reforming the way Congress does its work. Today, I've unveiled at America Speaking Out, my effort to ...

Boehner: "It's Clear to Everyone Except The President That His Big-Government Agenda Is Not Working"

John Boehner's House Leadership Office (R) posted a Video on July 20, 2010 | 12:14 pm - Original Item - Comments (View)
House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) delivered the following speech on Washington Democrats' failed economic policies and Republicans' commitment to listening to the American people through America Speaking Out and offering better solutions on jobs, spending, health care and other important issues: "Mr. Speaker, the American people are asking 'where are the jobs?' And just this morning we found out that housing starts fell in the month of June to their lowest level in eight months. Consumer confidence has fallen to its lowest level in the last 11 months. We need to get Americans back to work and we need to get American businesses back open again. But we're not going to get there if the President continues to take money and freedom away from American employers -- whether it's through the 'stimulus' bill, ObamaCare, the national energy tax, or this financial regulatory bill. With three million jobs lost and unemployment at 9.5 percent, and with trillion-dollar deficits, it's clear to everyone except the President that his big-government agenda is not working. We need to cut spending now in order to help create jobs in America. But we have no budget to clean up the mess. We have no plan to move free trade agreements that could create millions of American jobs, and we have no plan to stop the largest tax increase in history for American families and small businesses. Republicans are listening through America Speaking Out and offering better solutions that will limit ...

PRESIDENT?" House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH): "This week, President Obama traveled to Racine, Wisconsin -- a city with 14 percent unemployment -- and used his time there to attack me. But I'd ask the President several questions:" President Obama: "In the Gulf, we don't yet know what caused the explosion on the Deepwater Horizon oil rig." Boehner: "Why aren't you focused on stopping the oil spill in the Gulf and getting the Gulf cleaned up?" President Obama: "The second thing we've got to do is make sure that we've got regulations in place so that people don't get tricked into buying homes that they can't afford again." Boehner: "Why aren't you focused on reforming Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac?" President Obama: "The debt is getting bigger, the deficit is getting bigger. How do we get government spending under control?" Leader Boehner: "Why aren't you ...
