Admiral Robert Papp, the Commandant of the US Coast Guard, came to Alaska at my invitation to discuss Coast Guard resources in our state, the changing Arctic and the future needs of Alaska. We went to Kotzebue where we met with local community and business leaders, and also visited the Coast Guard personnel involved in Operation Arctic Crossroad. Later in the day, I went on to Nome where I hosted two veterans' listening sessions and toured the construction site of the new Nome hospital. begich.senate.gov |
